Everyone loves a baby and a Baby Naming Ceremony is a great way of showing it. Make it a double naming ceremony with a sibling or a baby’s cousin. In a Naming Ceremony your child is, symbolically, given to the care of all your family and friends and this early involvement will encourage a continuing interest on their part as your child grows.
Baby naming ceremony, is used by many parents to welcome their baby into the family, and symbolically, into the community.
The Naming Ceremony mirrors the Christening Ceremony which welcomes the child into a religious community. Since the Name Giving Ceremony is a private celebration, it doesn’t take the place of the Christening. Parents might choose to have a Naming Ceremony and a Christening Ceremony. Or they may allow the child to make that choice when old enough to do so.
Involved in the Naming Ceremony may be just the immediate family or a gathering of all relatives and friends who will become part of the baby’s life.
God Parents, Guardians, Guide parents, Mentors or Sponsors are chosen by the parents from their family members or special friends. The number chosen may be as few or as many as the parents want to take a close interest in the baby’s welfare.
Other people who can be involved directly in the ceremony are grandparents who will play a large role in the baby’s life. Guests can also be involved in the Naming Ceremony through communal prayers or blessings.
Symbolic rituals might also be included to give added meaning and life to the ceremony.
